4.       Website

·         The new site is impressive with an attractive style and listing Panel meeting dates, minutes and priorities. There are links to One Canonbury, Canonbury SNT, MPS Neighbourhood Link and the Canonbury Society. Visitors are encouraged to leave comments especially regarding current priorities but have to leave a valid email address. Content will be initially only managed by AMG but, as the site develops, there will need to be more than one editor.

·         The need now is for publicity about the site. AP will, together with AMG, design a simple flyer for distribution around Canonbury. This will be emailed to NH, VH, LN for posting on Southern Housing and other notice-boards on New River Green and for dissemination to members of the Canonbury Society (JC) and the Ockendon Road community (AP). Reports on feedback next meeting.

·         Martin was thanked for his work on the website and complimented on the style and format.

5.       Crime Statistics

Overall                                      81                     127                   56.8

1.       Residential Burglary

Number of offences increased slightly but downward trend towards the end of the quarter. SNT still focusing on prevention - provision of window locks and alarms in Caldy Walk and distribution of smart water kits. A number of arrests have also been made.

2.       Robbery/snatch

Main focus is Essex Road, New River Green and Essex Road/Ballspond Road junction. I-phone 4’s are the target with thieves on bicycles snatching mobiles.

3.       Dips

Low incidence in Canonbury

4.       Theft from MV

Usually items left visibly in cars No significant increase

5.       ASB

Incidence is down overall but rowdy behaviour especially in Upper Caldy Walk, Upper Lismore Walk is a continuing issue.

6.       Agreed Priorities

1.       Youth ASB

o        The offenders are known and the approach previously used with great success on the Packington Estate will be deployed. Parents of suspected offenders will be engaged in solving the problem. A variety of sanctions are available in the case of non-cooperation

2.       Robbery/snatch

o        As a Canonbury priority, other officers can be drafted into the ward as needed

o        Known hot-spots for snatches will be patrolled more intensively

o        LR to provide the poster about awareness of snatch crime to VH for distribution on New River Green.

3.       Youth Engagement

o        Fits with efforts to combat robbery/snatch and ASB

o        Continuing close collaboration with the Rosebowl especially concerning boxing training

o        Soccer and rugby sessions at Rosemary Gardens continue to be well attended.

7.       AOB

o        NH expressed concern that Canonbury SNT would not be represented at the forthcoming TRA meeting (19/04) for New River Green. LR stated that no officers were available and that the priority must be solving crime. Nevertheless the concern is that the recent reorganization dilutes SNT resources available for Canonbury

o        LR reported that there will be a significant reduction of officers deployed in Canonbury from 11/06to 11/09 as they are transferred to London Olympics duties. PCSO’s will remain in Canonbury

o        The current SN model will be replaced by Integrated Neighbourhood Policing after arrangement, response teams will deal only with emergencies and other officers currently who deal with less urgent crimes will work flexibly with SN teams. Thus the cluster of four SN teams in S. Islington would have an additional two sergeants and 20 PC’s available for SN policing and non-emergency crime.

o        VH who has been seeking interest in joining the Panel among New River Green residents, has identified a Turkish lady who is likely to join

o        The phone number of the Canonbury SN Team is 0208 721 2668

o        There were no candidates for the position of Panel Chair which AP has vacated. To be re-discussed at the next meeting. In the meantime, LR has kindly agree to act as Chair. AMG will be asked if she is prepared to continue act as Panel Secretary

o        Public Meeting: to be deferred until the Panel’s activities have been more widely publicized via the website flyers.
