A few months ago, the management of the Orwell pub applied for a change to their licence whereby the provision of
late-night weekend doormen would be at their own discretion rather than mandatory. This was seen as a retrograde
proposal by many residents of Ockendon and Mitchison roads and of the old people's home next door since late night
noise and general nuisance has, in the past, been a feature of the Orwell's activities.
The application has subsequently been withdrawn and, althougth there is no further news about the Orwell's future,
it seems that there is some refurbishment in progress. Please let us know if you hear anything further concerning
