Watering
A renewed plea for help with this. We now have
34 beds to water and dealing with the whole
street can take about two hours. In hot weather
it needs to be done at least TWICE A WEEK.
It would be a great help if you would take on the
watering of one or more beds near to you, on a
regular basis. If you can do this, please let us
know (contact@orra.org.uk).This is going to be
vital when the regular waterers are away. If the
gardens were left for a whole, rainless week, a number
of plants will certainly die. Don't forget:
even when it rains, the leaves stop most of the
water reaching the bed. And what does get down
is taken by the tree.
New trees Other Ways of Helping
You will have seen that each Do you have spare earth,or heavy-duty
young tree has a plastic tube sacks? Do you know of any other streets
sticking out alongside. This that are doing this? Please let us
allows water to get to the tree know at contact@orra.org.uk if you
roots, where it is most needed. see anybody taking or vandalising
The Council is supposed to come plants, thoughtless dog owners, or
and water those trees. It is not 'orange-peel Percy' (or is it
clear whether they will do this Paulette?) who might be politely
regularly or depending on the asked not to throw the bits into the
weather (or, indeed, if they gardens every day.
forget). Nor do we know if we
should add water ourselves.
It is possible to over-water a
young tree. If you see someone from
the Council watering the trees please
seek answers to those questions,
and let Tony know.
